Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur

Shri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur is one of the disciples of Shri Shri Mahaprabhu in Shri Dham Nabadip.

“In this Shri dham Nabadip we have three Shri Mahaprabhu’s follower. First is President Shri Prangopal Goswami, second is Shri Govinda Mandir’s sebayet leader Shri Sadhu Bhubaneswar & third person is most respected Mr.Ramdas Babaji . Last person if we don’t take still you will understand he in southern part of Nabadip in devotion to Krishna (RadhaRomon) after dressing like Lolita having fun (Brojora Sadhan) in love. “Ihara sokolei Brohmando tarite sakti dhore jone jone”.

In State of Assam of district Kachar in Bikrampur Pargana village of Seuti Moujar Barpuya in Manipuri Bishnupriya family (10 Karthik 1277) during time of Bhaiponta(Bhatriditiya)he took birth today name of the village has been renamed to Bhubaneswar Nagar.

In his childhood Sadhu Thakur with clay he used to built Krishna idols & use to do prey with flowers & fruits. He used to visit all local family while singing Krishna songs(Hari bol) & playing musical instruments(Ram Kortal), food he used to collect from village used to be devoted to Temple.

Everyone accepts Sadhu Thakur from his childhood was silent & serious kind of person. His father Pundit Sanatan used teaches Sanskrit grammar & devotional books. Sadhu Thakur from his father in a year learnt grammar with lot of dedication. After 18 year of his age Sadhu Thakur went to Tripura to study Sanskrit. There he used to live in house of Tripura’s Royal Pundit Mineswar Sarbobhoumo Bhattarjee & study grammar & devotional books.

Within 1 year he developed wish to visit all 4 Dham of Krishna very much. He didn’t have money but still in nearly 4 years he visited all 4 dhams by blessing of Shri Shri Govinda jiu. During his visit he only had a vessel to keep water & one distorted cloth. He used to sing devotional songs(bhajan) in Kamya Forest.

He passed few days drinking water from the vessel and last he didn’t have power to fetch water then 2 -3 days he didn’t have water. Shri Radhi Rani seeing Sadhu Thakur situation heart melted & she said Lolita with a fruit basket to make Sadhu Thakur eat them. Then Lolita turned into milk woman with fruits visit Sadhu Thakur under the tree said “Baba who is here please take down the fruit basket”. Hearing this on his near death time Sadhu Thakur woke up and took basket and gradually own eternal power. Then milk women said “Please eat few fruits as the basket is very heavy I can’t take it”. Sadhu Thakur replied “I don’t have any money to pay for fruits specially I have not taken bath for 3 days, without offering prayer to Govinda ji I will not eat”. Milk Women replied “Here you have pond take bath & offer prayer to Govinda ji”.

After taking bath Sadhuthakur offered preyer under the tree and saw there is no milk women and no gold plated pond. This is how sadhuthakur got blessings of radharani. 

                        His dedication and devotional songs were very popular in brindavan. In winter during Ekadashi he used to be submerged till his neck in the cold water of Yamuna and used to sing devotional songs. He used to sleep on wooden plank and his pillow was another wood piece. There were hundreds of bugs in the wooden plank and it was very difficult to sleep after their bites. But he never killed any bug as he was devoted to Allmighty.

  Bhubaneswar Sadhuthakur’s dedication is mainly bengali’s love for Radhamadhav’s devotion. He got  fellowship from Sri Krishnadas thakur in Brindavan. During that time infront of Baishnav community Gurudev (Krishnadas) gave him name “ Thakur.” After getting this name Sadhuthakur dreamt that he has to fo to sridham Nabadwip as per the direction from Radharani.

           Once Sadhuthakur visited the Jagannath temple in Puri. During his visit he suffered lots of pain. Last half mile he saw darkness infront of his eyes as he was bleeding. As he was Bachelor, he was determined to visit the temple at one go and so he succeed. Immediately he got cured and he started singing his devotional songs at one corner of the temple. Without drinking water for 7 days and 7 nights he sang the devotional songs. At the end of 7 night he got the direction from Jagannath Dev that he will able to see “ Srinandan”. Sadhuthakur immediately went under the tree and saw Sri Govinda Ji . He again started singing the devotional songs in the temple premises. In the mean time Jagannath Ji gave direction to Gosai Mahanto in his dream that “ I have not taken water and food for last 7 days. My devotee Sadhu Bhubaneswar is in the temple. If he doesn’t take food and water I will also not take any food or water.” Puri’s gosai immediately found Sadhuthakur and persued him to his house and made all arrangements of his stay. Next 7-8  months he got chance to serve Jagannath Dev.

   Sadhuthakur again got direction in dream from Jgannth ji that the temple renovation has to be completed and Sri Prabhu also gave direction that Sadhuthakur has to come to nabadwip and will supervise and manage all the servings there. After this Bishupriya samiti got established. As sadhuthakur tried, the nabadwip railway station’s name got changed to nabadwip dham.

Shri Bhubhaneswar thakur’s life is full of strange mystery. He had close relation with Shri Radha Govinda. Thakur was full of mysterious power. Deceased were cured from leprosy & several dying patients were recovered.

King of Munger Shri Raghunandan Prasad Singh Bahadur was close follower of Sadhu thakur. Once Kings only son was about to die, King did a telegram to Sadhu thakur. Sadhu thakur after offering prayer to Lord replied to the telegram “Maharaj your son will recover but have to do Nam Yogya”. Strangefully after receiving telegraph without any medicine prince recovered.

During Devotional song Sadhu baba used to be in trance, he used to loose all knowledge of worldly affairs. It was likely he used to get devoted into the Shri Radha Govinda lila.

One of the devotees of Sadhu Thakur wrote – “if I see any problem then Sadhu Baba comes into my dream & this is true”.

 Shri Sadhu Thaker went to Dhaka at home of Mr.Rampad Pal and established Shri Shri Harisabha, he stayed there for next 3 months. Devotees established a committee & collected nominal fare to do devotional songs everyday. Shri Mandir got renovated & service got started the umbrella & thrown were made out of silver. Many people got devoted to Lord Krishna as Sadhu thakur used to visit Dhaka & do devotional songs.

From the world of Gourio Baishnav Sadhu Thakur used to do different devotional songs from the temple premised to streets of nabadip which created lots of love in the heart of people in nabadip. But few people in nabadip was not very enthusiastic about it & said this kind of devotional song is not “Sangkirtan”.

To resolve the conflict in the temple premises of nabadip lots of Pundits from India organized a big event & there were lots of debate about it atlast with everybody presence it was decided Shri Hare Krishna Naam Jap & Kirtan was accepted. This is how Sadhu baba was dedicated to do better of people.

Shri Govinda Jiu Mandir from the direction of Lord Krishna in the year 1342 14 Magh on the Full moon day Sadhu Thakur established the Temple. Shri Govinda Jiu blessed to Sadhu thakur to write Shri Govindarchan Churamani book got published which helped Gorio Bhaishnab devotional process were made easy. Self renowned Goswami wrote, “Before publishing this book all the books which were published earlier within them this is the best following all the process & knowledge”.

All artifacts of devotion were there in Sadhu Baba. Food, Work devotion, all time prayer, charity as per limitation, faith in truth, being simple, happiness of soul these were the reason he became Krishna lover. Being bachelor for his whole life he devoted all his life to Lord Krishna.

Like another Krishna devotee Mira Bai said “Don’t require Pleasure of body, don’t need jewellery of Mahendra Mandir , don’t need Royal place just need you govinda”.

Our Sadhu Baba also liked Radha Govinda in same fashion. People who have seen closely devotion they only know with determination & golden heart sadhu baba had.

Once one of his devotee asked few details sadhu baba told him that his life is full of so many stange instances that no one will believe them, he started crying like a child while telling this because those electrifying instances were not be told as sentences hence he cried.

Sadhu baba was bridge among all the devotees. Belief & respect for his religion was deep similarly he had never ending knowledge about other religions. Shri Bhagavat Gita & other religious books were in his finger tips. He used to say description of religious books without music listening & telling is crime.

Sadhu baba never used to go out very often as he used to seat infront of temple idol & prey lord Krishna. He used to cry sometimes & laugh sometimes. He used to say to call lord. If you call him with all devotion he will give you darshan.

1936 01 shravan Monday after 1.45 PM time Sadhu thakur with blessings from shri govinda ji & shri Mahaprabhu passed away. To see him huge amount of people of all ages throng temple, after circling temple a huge rally went to cremation ground where he was cremated as per hindu religious belief.

He died when he was 71 years old still in govinda jiu’s temple you can find his immortal soul. He lives in the heart of his million followers & devotees. Ever after in life people who believes in Krishna will remember him and their soul will get refined & peace.

Hence every year we celebrate Sadhu baba’s birth anniversary with lots of love & regards.
